Winpwn 3g iPhone - no carrier signal - solution found
OK so nearly every guide on the ‘net for Winpwn gives you instructions which do_not_work.
I followed the instructions on iClarified to no avail…. my phone did get jailbreaked but i had no signal.
I managed to find some further instructions to sit on top of the iClarified solution that i can confirm work perfectly.
> Restore your phone back to the standard iPSW
> Create your custom pwned iPSW, do NOT select “activate phone” or “Youtube fix” - only select “Install Cydia”
> Take out your SIM card (this is important)
> Put the phone into DFU mode
> Pwn your iPhone as normal
> Once pwned (during the time that iTunes says your phone has been restored and gives you a countdown timer), unplug the iPhone, insert your SIM and plug in again.
> Now set up the phone in iTunes as a NEW PHONE - DO NOT DO A RESTORE (also important)
I can confirm this works.

HI Garry,
I recently bought an unlocked, jailbroken 8 Gb, iPhone 2.0 from ebay. The SIM card reader never worked properly, either not reading the card at all or locking up the card reader spontaneously. I had the phone checked out by a technician who confirmed the problem was not the unlock software, but the card reader itself was faulty.
The seller now claims I or the tech downloaded Winpwn and made the phone “unusable” with “irreversible” damage. He argues Winpwn is an unreliable software and quickpwn should have been used.
Can usage of winpwn make a phone unusable or cause Irreversible damage?
Thank you very much for your advice,
Bettinak

Hey Bettinak,
According to the iPhone dev team, the only way you can really break an iphone by flashing custom firmware is by flashing an incomplete image… meaning interrupt the flash process.
I would strongly advise you try to find someone who has access to an Apple Mac and have them create you a jailbreaked firmware using pwnage tool.
I’ve had problems with Winpwn myself but nothing that i couldn’t fix with pwnage tool.
Its also worth noting that if you attempt a restore and it keeps failing, you should either find another PC with iTunes and try the restore there… or create a new user account on your PC and try the restore again. I got this advice from Apple Care and it worked.
Hope you find this useful,
Garry
