seeqpod.com and its lesser known relatives

I’m not sure how popular seeqpod is among the masses, but a couple of my friends use it on their iPhones to play the odd track here and there.

Well, until recently i was using www.seeqpod.com extensively, but I’ve since come across a few more.

http://www.songza.com
http://www.hushie.com
http://skreemr.com
http://mp3realm.org

If you’re unsure of the premise of these sites think about this scenario…Have you ever just wanted to quickly play a track to your friends that you want to recommend to them but you haven’t bought it and put it on your mp3 player yet?

Well, visit one of the above sites and perform your search, from what i gather they have robot crawlers in the same vane as google and they index their findings and make them available for search by us!

I know what you’re thinking… are these sites legal?

For now. Yes.

Here is a quote from the FAQ page on seeqpod.

SeeqPod is an information location tool. Although SeeqPod does not host content it encourages the adherence to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Along with Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, SeeqPod is a member of The Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA) which advocates Fair Use of copyrighted content on the Internet and Free Speech. The CCIA legal team is supported by its members and has promoted the fact that Courts have repeatedly held that the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and the doctrine of Fair Use shield search engines from liability. Removing link to content that can only be found on the Internet is a form of censorship that is counter the principles of Free Speech.

So… go ahead… search… find music to recommend to your friends… then go and buy it !
