In order to make this install work, you need to enable IPV6 - you can leave it set to assign automatically. Once this is done, run IPCONFIG and make sure an address is assigned.

Now reboot the server and run the Exchange install again.

Secondly, i have volunteered to be one of the first customers to allow their hosting account to be moved to a new shiny datacenter which may be causing some issues accessing the site. In return though i get unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth! Nice.

I am working on a new project at work to move our server infrastructure to a fully virtual environment, so expect to see some posts relating to that (Windows Server 2008, Exchange 2007, Hyper-V etc) soon. I’m no expert on Virtualisation… yet.

As i detailed in a previous post, i thought i had a way to listen to the radio 1 live stream on my iPhone… now there is a fully working and legit method of doing so.

May I introduce you to FStream [App Store Link]

This is a free app (get is fast before they decide to charge for it) that will allow you to stream ASX (Windows Media)

In order to get the radio 1 stream, you need to add a favorite (i edited an existing one) and use the following URL..

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/wm_asx/aod/radio1.asx

…. you can leave the bottom two fields empty and click save. I’ve been listening to Radio 1 for about 15 mins now and its working fine. Its only 20kbps but its a start!!!

….in windows that is… not the iPhone UI.

Easy steps:

- Update your iPhone to firmware 2.0 with Pwnage 2.0, use our straightforward guide.
It’s important that your iPhone is Jailbroken, and that you have installed Cydia Installer.

- Fire up Cydia, and install OpenSSH. It will allow you to connect to your iPhone.
Next you will need an ftp client that handles SFTP protocol.
We recommend Transmit for Mac users or CoreFTP for Windows users.

- Connect your iPhone to your wifi home network, and check the assigned IP address.
Fire up your FTP client, and connect to your iPhone IP address with the following user:

User : root
Password : alpine

- Get the IPA files (google is your friend)
Rename the extension IPA to ZIP and extract the content.
You’ll find the XXXX.app in the Payload folder.

- Browse to the /Applications directory and upload the XXXX.app

- You will need to set the correct permissions on the apps folder in /Applications
Apply permissions 775 with your ftp client to the folder you added under /Applications

- Create a folder called “Documents” in /Applications and /private/var/Mobile
This is a one time process, if the Documents folder already exist, leave it skip to next step

- You will need to set the correct permissions on the 2 “Documents” folder you created
Apply permissions 777 with your ftp client.

- Reboot your iPhone and the *free* apps should appear on your iPhone.

Alternative method:

This method will allow you install *free* cracked IPA files through iTunes.
It requires that you replace a framework with a patched one.

- Connect to your iPhone with SSH, user root, password alpine
- Go to folder /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework
- Backup the MobileInstallation binary : cp -r MobileInstallation MobileInstallation.bak
- Connect with SFTP and upload the patched MobileInstallation
- Set permissions : chmod 775 MobileInstallation
- Reboot the iPhone

Double-Click the IPA files to import them in iTunes.
Then simply Sync your applications with iPhone.

Important note :
Use this method only to evaluate apps before you buy them.
Developers spent lot of time working on their applications, respect their work.
Stealing apps may lower their quality for future releases.

This is nothing new, i’ve been using Orbfor a few years on various devices (WM and Nokia)… after seeing this entry though on iClarified i had to give this a shot.

Firstly it’s important to ask how this made it through the App Store if Apple are indeed working on their own solution to this problem - still lets not worry too much about that a little competition is healthy yes?

The iPhone App itself is currently free from the App Store (link opens iTunes) until over 100,000 people download it, then it will be priced $3.99

The backend (server) app is free from the Simplify Media page http://www.simplifymedia.com/index.html available for Windows / Linux / OSX and will remain free at all times.

I’ve installed it myself and I’m currently streaming Jay Z and Linkin park to my iPhone over my 3G connection from the iTunes library on the PC by my feet!

It does take a short while to set up an account, but the sign up process is very streamlined and non intrusive (no pages of personal questions). Once you have an account and sign in, the small app runs and scans your library. Mine has been installed for about 15 minutes and it has just finished scanning my 16Gb library.

You are also able to share out your library to 30 of your friends which sounds like it could be fun - I’ll be selling this concept to my iPhone owning colleagues tomorrow

The interface on the phone is simple and familiar, while listing to the track you can press on ‘artist’ to get some artist information or ‘lyrics’ to get the lyrics which i think is a very cool feature.

To say i was a little skeptical was an understatement.

I installed the software and connected my iPhone 3G (iTunes was not running) and Touch Copy found my iPhone and listed all the tracks within around 15 seconds… and sat there waiting for me to do something!!

I changed the default location for the files to be backed up to and pulled back a few tracks the speed was good, but if you want to backup your entire iPhone library (i have 14.5Gb of music on my iPhone) it looks like if could take a while - which is OK.

I wish there was more to write about… it just works!

There is a version for Windows and Mac OSX which is all good.
