3G iPhone in the UK…. is it cheaper?

To celebrate the first real post on my shiny new tech blog i have whipped up a very simple spreadsheet for all prospective 3G iPhone owners in the UK. According to a blog post on The Outsidr, in the US the claim by Apple of “Twice as fast, half the price” certainly does not hold true, however here in the UK its a slightly different story….

iPhone TCO in the UK

The total cost of ownership for the 3G iPhone is cheaper across the board than the first gen iPhone on O2 UK tariffs……which is good for us Brits, but a shame for our friends across the pond who appear to be paying considerably more. The claim of half the price though is way off as you can see from the above table.

So the second set of figures in your spreadsheet is the o2 tarrif?

It is still damn expensive even with 3G - what kind of minutes and texts do you get with it?

Hi Carey, thanks for your comment…

All the figures at the top are the o2 line rental charges, the collection on the left are for the new 3G iPhone the ones on the right are for the existing non-3G iPhone.

The included minutes and texts are all listed on the o2 site…
